Dr Ole Schröder joined HÄRTING as Of Counsel on 1 August 2026. With his many years of experience in politics and business, he enhances our expertise, particularly in regulatory, data and compliance-related matters, as well as at the interface between law, politics and business.
Dr Ole Schröder combines legal expertise with many years of political experience and operational responsibility in the business world. After studying law at the University of Hamburg and completing a Master’s degree in international business law at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, he obtained his doctorate from the University of Hamburg. He began his professional career at White & Case in Hamburg.
From 2002 to 2017, Ole Schröder was a member of the German Bundestag. From 2009 to 2018, he served as Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of the Interior. In this role, he was responsible in particular for the areas of digitalisation, information technology, cyber security and data protection. He also led the German side’s negotiations on the General Data Protection Regulation.
After leaving politics, Ole Schröder worked, amongst other things, as a consultant for KPMG. From 2020 until the end of 2025, he was a member of the Executive Board of SCHUFA Holding AG, where his responsibilities included legal affairs, compliance, data protection, public affairs, finance and human resources.
At HÄRTING, his areas of expertise include data protection and data law, AI and digital regulation, compliance and corporate governance, as well as IT security issues. He also advises companies on legislative and regulatory processes, as well as in proceedings before supervisory and regulatory authorities.
